It is a traditional way of braiding nettle fibers for the Chapang people. The technique has been used for centuries. The Chapang people are an ethnic group in Nepal who have traditionally lived as nomads or semi-nomads. These groups, known as Chapang or Chapangi, are often marginalized communities and have historically had a low socio-economic status. Women in these communities play an important role in family life and society as a whole, but they often face challenges such as poverty, lack of education and limited access to healthcare and other basic services. However, there are efforts to improve their situation through various development programs and initiatives.
Aja and LAYA are behind the production of these delicious washcloths through workshops for these Chapang women and providing them with work under fair conditions and wages.
