This bag is more than just a beautiful accessory – it’s a living piece of cultural history. Each bag is meticulously hand-crocheted by women from the Chepang people of Nepal and made from fibers from wild vines such as Bharla tree, Phirpire and Odal. Each bag takes several days to make and therefore varies in size and appearance – the very thing that makes each bag unique.
The bag is a modern variation of the traditional Chepang bag that women have used for centuries to carry food and goods. The material, also known as Kolpa Allo (wild nettle), is beautiful, durable and sustainable – and its manufacture requires deep knowledge and respect for the rhythm of nature.
The adjustable cotton shoulder strap is embroidered with a Sanskrit mantra:
“Om Asato Ma Sadgamaya” meaning:
“From the unreal, lead me to the truth.”
A key mantra from the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad that brings depth and spirituality to the bag.
